For two days, Memento Mori in NYC will bring together Japanese philosophy, contemporary art, traditional culture, and new perspectives on life and death.
The program includes art exhibitions, talks, workshops, a marketplace, a coffin experience, memorial photography, performances, and more.

A Portrait of the Life You Are Living
One experience we especially invite you to discover is our MEMORIAL PORTRAIT STUDIO.
In Japan, a portrait used at a funeral is called an “Iei.”
Traditionally, an Iei is often selected by family members after someone has passed away. But what if you could choose that portrait yourself—while you are still living?
What if you could create a photograph that captures who you are today?
At Memento Mori in NYC, New York-based photographer Tokio Kuniyoshi and hair & makeup artist Michael will create a personal portrait experience designed to bring out your unique presence and personality.
This is not simply a photograph for a funeral.
It is a portrait of the life you are living.
During the 30-minute session, you will receive professional hair and makeup before your portrait session. Your finished digital image will be provided after the shoot.
